A guided walk within the mainly pedestrian town centre to see how artists have interpreted Newbury’s buildings and street scenes between the 1780s and the mid-20th century. In the days before photography, artists were vital recorders. Arguably, an artist’s eye sees more than a camera lens, and Newbury has been fortunate in having its landmarks recorded – and interpreted – by them.
The walk is aimed at an adult audience, but children 12 and over are welcome.
Jane Burrell is a former curator of West Berkshire Museum and is the current Secretary of the Newbury District Field Club (Newbury’s local history society). An entertaining speaker, she gives many talks to local groups.
